St Mary’s Chapel, Brighton

The chapel was constructed on a restricted site in the rear grounds of a care home run by the Order of the Grace and Compassion Benedictines. Due to the steep embankment into which the building was built, much of the structure is underground and the control of natural light was therefore fundamental to the concept of the building’s form and detail.   The Chapel was designed to allow the gardens’ enhancement and extension across the surface of the new roof.
